Dr. Atul Bora

Dr Bora is also the Founder Chairperson of ‘North East Foundation for Regional Sustainability’ and ‘Education for Sustainability’ is its prime goal to be achieved in collaboration of academy, industry, community. Dr Bora is a recognized ‘Earth Charter Educator’ on ‘Education for sustainable development’. Sustainable Development Issues & Issues in Sustainability Perspective are his keen interest and are central theme and driving force of his all professional, social works and initiatives.

In addition to a Bachelor, Masters and Ph.D in Engineering, Dr Bora received training in ‘Skill Development and Community Colleges’ under the ‘International Visitor Leadership Program’ of USA. He also has undergone training on ‘Vocational Education Leadership Training (VELT) Program’ of TAFE Directors, Australia (TDA).
Dr Bora also served as the Director of Technical Education of the state of Assam for about nine years in addition to the Principal of Assam Engineering College and Jorhat Engineering College.
As a professor in Civil Engineering Dr Bora has a teaching experience of more than 30 years in undergraduate and postgraduate courses on subjects such as Geotechnical Engineering, Disaster Management, Construction Management, Environmental Geotechnics, Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering, and Advanced Soil Mechanics.

He is a life member of Indian Society of Technical Education, Member of International Council for research and Innovation in Building and Construction, Member of Integrated Chambers of Commerce and Industry.


He was a Member, All India Technical Roard, AICTE; a member of Board of Governors of National Institute of Technology Silchar, National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Kolkatta, West Bengal and Board of Practical Training, Kolkata, Institute of Hotel Management, Guwahati, Jyoti Chatraban and Film Institute. He also served as Executive Council member and Academic Council Member of Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University, Assam Science and Technology University, Assam Women University and all other state Universities of Assam.
