NEFRS calls its First Round Table on Education for Sustainability

United Nation action plan for 21st century Agenda 21 identifies education as critical for promoting sustainable development and improving the capacity of all people to address environment and development issues. Also, the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development [2005-2014] clearly reveals the need of a world wide initiative for reorienting education in support of a sustainable common future for all.

NEFRS is a charitable public trust with a mission for developing an interdisciplinary, collaborative network of academic, industry, community and government in support of a sustainable approach to region-specific problems. Under the above mentioned backdrop, NEFRS has prioritized its sustainability mission on education and has undertaken activities that stimulate the all stakeholders about the urgent need of incorporating sustainability into our educational as well as in all forms of learning so as to produce ecologically literate and socially responsible citizenry with integrated thinking and decision-making skills for lasting, holistic and equitable solutions of the complex societal problems of the regions. NEFRS values this initiative as a fundamental step for linking the state’s higher educational institutions cum scientific establishment with the state’s agenda for sustainable development which in turn will pave the ways for sustainable management of unemployment in one hand and for productive utilisation of the employed manpower on the other hand. Finally it is hoped that such an objective effort is bound to generate a framework for institutional sustainability, especially at a time when almost all of our once premier educational institutions are crying for survival, one after another.

To address all these local and vital issuesNEFRS warmly invite you to participate in its “First Round-Table on Education for Sustainability”, on  November 27, 2005 dedicated to the following themes

  1. Incorporating sustainability in Education: The Roadmap Ahead
  2. Role of academy, industry, community and government

We look forward for your valued association to NEFRS for pursuing the region-specific problems in a sustainability framework.

Yours sincerely
